We can’t think of a better way to enjoy one of the best seasons to ride a bike than an autumn bike trip. 

Covering 165 miles through Bucks, Lehigh, Luzerne, and Carbon Counties, the D&L Trail is the perfect place for a fall ride where you can enjoy long expanses of beautiful fall foliage, waterside views, and of course, festive activities. 

This summer, we put together three curated digital trip Guides to give riders the opportunity to plan their own long-distance bike trips on the D&L. To celebrate the change in season, we’ve compiled a short list of autumn-inspired stops, which are a great addition to Bikeout’s D&L Guides.

Each guide includes turn-by-turn directions, sample itineraries, information on public transportation and more. Simply purchase and download the guide of your choice, and add one of these stops to your self guided itinerary for an amazing fall ride!

Bucks County‍

Enjoy apple picking and fresh cider at Solebury Orchard ‍

Located in the heart of Bucks county and known for its picturesque country setting, this is the perfect place for a few hours of apple picking and enjoying the scenery. Reservations are now required on weekends.‍

Sip hard apple cider at Manoff Market and Gardens

‍Miles from the trail: 1.5

M2 Cidery uses fermented apples from fruit grown directly on their farm. With 13 different aged cider varieties to choose from you can take your time sipping the afternoon away. Check their website for the most up to date information and weekend tasting times.

‍Have some family fun at Fall Fest 2020‍

Miles from the trail: 4

Pumpkin picking, wagon rides, and a corn maze, this event at Shadybrook Farm near Yardley has all the essentials for a festive afternoon outside. Tickets are required, so be sure to purchase them in advance.‍

Lehigh Valley‍

Sip an imperial pumpkin ale at Weyerbacher Taproom‍

One of many seasonal brews on tap, this local brewery will not disappoint if you’re a fan of fall inspired drinks. Food trucks are also available for bites to pair. Weyerbacher is open on weekends and weekdays with outdoor seating available.‍

Explore 14 acres of corn maze at Raub’s Farm Market‍

Miles from the trail: 7 

Open until early November, this massive corn maze is home to 7 miles of walking trails. You can enjoy a relaxing stroll, or spend a few hours solving one of their many corn maze mysteries (perfect for kids!). Hayrides are also available on weekends. ‍

Sip wines made from the Chambourcin grape at Black River Farms‍

Miles from the trail: 5 

Sample the grape that put the Lehigh Valley wine scene on the map and pair it with a locally made cheese plate or pizza. Black River Farms isn’t too far from Bethlehem which means you can explore this quaint town right after enjoying a glass of wine.  ‍

Carbon County‍

Rent a bike from Pocono Biking and travel 10, 15, or 25 miles on the D&L trail through the Lehigh Gorge. This stretch of the trail, including Lehigh Gorge State Park, promises some of the best views of fall foliage in the entire region.  ‍

Stroll the quaint town of Jim Thorpe‍

Fall is an even more special time to explore charming towns like Jim Thorpe. A walk down Broadway Street will treat you to eclectic shops, delicious eateries, and unique museums filled with spooky history, fall inspired menus, and specialty drinks. ‍

Hike Boulder Field and Hawk Falls at Hickory Run State Park‍

Miles from the trail: 5-9 miles

Spanning nearly 16,000 acres in the Pocono Mountains, Hickory Run State Park is an ideal location to stretch your legs and enjoy a scenic hike. With options for camping and other local lodging nearby, this is the perfect basecamp for a week of trail adventures by foot and by bike.
